DA's Armada Shipyards

Welcome to the unofficial home of DA's Armada Shipyards. Since DA (aka DiabloAzul) was no longer able to support www.armadashipyards.com, and has since shut down the site, he was kind enough to grant Amoeba Games permission to continue hosting his content. Here at its new home, you will find collections of all the card images originally available on the Armada Shipyards site, plus a few other, previously unreleased DA-designed cards.

We have gone one step further and prepared and bundled high-resolution, print-ready images that are ready to send off to the printer. Each section below lists the contents of its respective download, as well as detailed instructions on how to print the cards. Its imperative that you do not change the size or resolution of any of the images contained in the individual downloads, or they will not print correctly. Also note that during the printing and cutting process, there are sometimes narrow bands of white that may appear along one or two edges of the final card. If it happens and bothers you, a paper cutter, blade or sharp scissors can be used to clean up the edges.

High resolution images are large by nature, so the downloadable files are also rather large. All file contents have been zipped into single archives. You will need a Zip Extraction utility, like WinZip or the native zip extractor found in Windows. We strongly recommend you use a desktop computer for this process. After you download the files to your computer, unzip the archives to extract the raw images that you can then upload to your preferred printing service.

In addition to processing and bundling all of the images to make print-ready versions for you, we've painstakingly ensured the entire Armada section of this site, has DA Shipyards content tightly, but optionally integrated and treated as a first-class citizen. This includes the Collection Management System, The Fleet Builder, and the Database, and the DA Shipyards integration is always a single checkbox click away whenever applicable. When available, we have also included links to the related models from MEL Miniatures on Shapeways. Those links are available under the Models tab of the database. Be sure to click the DA Shipyards checkbox, and set the Availability filter to Third-Party.

Pro Tip:
Printing custom cards can be pricey. Make sure you build the largest deck you can of the same sized cards, as the per card cost drastically decreases the larger the deck you build. For example, all the DA Ship Cards, DA Ship Base Cards, AG Upgrade Card Dividers, and AG Squadron Dials all use the Tarot Card template, so include all of those you want to print in one deck on PrinterStudio. Also, Squadron Cards and Objective Cards use the same PrinterStudio template so make sure you group those together as well. Carefully plan your print project and make sure you triple and quadruple check it before you click that last button to print it.
* We recommend PrinterStudio, to whom we have no relationship, but with whom we have had very positive results with printing these materials. We do not provide specific details on how to operate that website. As of the time of this writing, their site is quite user-friendly and easy to figure out. All printing instructions assume you are using this service. You may, however, use any suitable printing service and adjust the steps accordingly.
Printing Instructions:
Card Backs:
This download contains various card back images, for use when printing any of the below cards. It contains card back images for Ship cards, Squadron and Objective cards, and Upgrade cards. It also contains a black starfield image for use on the backs of Ship Base cards.

This download is required by all the other downloads, if you plan on printing two-sided cards through a printing service such as PrinterStudio. All images are sized for full-bleed color printing, meaning these images overflow slightly beyond the cut lines to ensure there are no white ghosted margins around the cards after they are cut.

* All images are print-ready at 300 dpi and are ready to upload. Do not resize the images or change their resolution or they will not print correctly.

Ship Cards:
This download contains all available Ship cards and Ship Base cards in the DA Shipyards collection as a single download. This includes all cards and bases for Imperial, Rebel, Republic and Separatist factions.

* Be sure you print one base card for each ship card you print!

* Ship Base cards will require some additional cutting to prepare them for use. Also, given their thickness, we recommend some black closed-cell hobby foam (2mm) of the same size as the ship base card to place underneath the base card. This will provide a snug fit between the base card and the peg on the ship's base.

* All images are print-ready at 300 dpi and are ready to upload. Do not resize the images or change their resolution or they will not print correctly.
Contains:
Ship Cards:
All Ship cards for each faction

Upgrade Cards:
This download contains all available Upgrade cards in the DA Shipyards collection as a single download. This includes all cards including the Imperial Star Destroyer Title Pack.

NOTE: These card images are slightly narrower than any available blank, so there may be some slight white margins on the final cut cards. This can be remedied with a paper cutter, blade or sharp scissors. If sharp corners become an issue after trimming, you can find a cheap corner cutter on ebay.

* All images are print-ready at 300 dpi and are ready to upload. Do not resize the images or change their resolution or they will not print correctly.

Amoeba Games Armada Add-Ons

Here at Amoeba Games, we try to make your gaming experience better. As players of all the games on this site, we have gone through the experience ourselves, of collecting, organizing, customizing, etc and we have a couple cool things we would like to share, that we have found useful ourselves. Plus, quite frankly, we've already done the work, and want others to reap the benefits, making the effort more worthwhile for us.

That being said, there are a couple of simple tools you might want to consider investing in that will make your life a lot easier and make the experience of printing and using custom cards and game components far more enjoyable (and way less frustrating).

  1. Get a paper cutter. Theyre about 10-12 bucks and you will be glad you did.
  2. Somewhere you have an X-Acto knife. Bust it out and put a new blade in it. If not (shame on you), run out and get one.
  3. 1.25" Circle Punch for punching, rather than cutting, any squadron dials you choose to print. You do not want to try to cut around them. We've made this mistake. Learn from us!
  4. 1/8" Hole Punch for punching the center peg holes on any squadron dials you choose to print. Note above applies here as well.
AG Upgrade Card Dividers:
These handy upgrade card dividers will help keep all your upgrade cards neatly organized and easy to find. There is a divider image for each upgrade type including the DA Shipyards-specific types. We've also included a Blank card image for use with future upgrade types not yet announced, as well as a divider card image for separating your damage decks.

Tip: Print one Damage Deck divider for each damage deck in your collection

The divider cards are slightly wider than upgrade cards, and feature the name of the upgrade type at the top, as well as the icon for that type, for those of us who sometimes have difficulty remembering what some of the symbols are. This makes it easy to find your upgrade cards when you are pulling a fleet, since the upgrade type names are visible, like dividers in a file cabinet.

The dividers are designed for use in a standard card box. Some poster board can be used to split the box in half lengthwise. Adding a small piece in the front and back of each slot as shown, will ensure your cards stay in their correct slot. A 400 count card box should be more than sufficient to hold all the upgrade cards from your entire Armada collection, with plenty of room to spare.

These cards need to be printed on oversized stock and as such will require cutting once printed. We have provided a convenient set of cut lines to use as guides. A paper cutter will make short work of these.

* All images are print-ready at 300 dpi and are ready to upload. Do not resize the images or change their resolution or they will not print correctly.

Damage Deck Divider:
Card for separating Damage decks. Print one for each Damage deck in your collection.
AG Squadron Dials:
Say goodbye to those squadron dials that are nearly impossible to turn when you take damage. Say goodbye to having to find the right squadron dial and then figuring out which side of it you need for your unique or non-unique squadron. Say goodbye to having to change all your squadrons when you change fleets.

...Well. Sort of.

With these custom generic dials, you no longer need to worry about what specific dial you put on your squadron base. You only need to worry about what faction and hull value it is. Simply place one over top of any stock cardboard dial. This way, any Rebel, 4-hull squadron, for example, can use the same dial. So when switching squadrons, you likely will not have to change the base, just the ships on the peg.

There are a lot of 3-hull and 5-hull Imperial squadrons and a lot of 4-hull and 5-hull Rebel squadrons, so there is plenty of room to reuse dials. Republic and Separatist faction squadrons are similar in that a large range of squadrons can share the same bases and dials. Spend your play time playing, not setting up!

So go ahead and put away the 130 squadrons you have assembled in a box somewhere, ready to go, just in case you might use them one day in that epic 2000 point game you've run through in your head a hundred times. Yeah, Im talking to you!

When cut out using a 1.25" Circle Punch, the dials are 1/64" larger than the stock cardboard dials, all the way around meaning they stick out just enough where you can easily turn them without having to turn the entire bottom of the base to change their values. If you punch the center with a 1/8" hole punch, they will be a perfect fit on the peg, and will move with ease.

Tip: Print an extra card or two of dials so you can get the hang of using the circle punch and hole punch without ruining dials you're counting on having. It only takes a little bit of practice.

The download contains single dial images for each faction, for squadrons with hull values from 3 to 7. Each dial has a faction icon and a color scheme specific to that faction, and nothing else. No ship icons. No trait icons. Just what you really need, making these generic dials a quick and super easy fit for all of your squadrons. We now use these exclusively.

The colors for the Republic and Separatist factions were selected to match the firing arcs on the ship base cards. Below are examples of the Imperial, Rebel, Republic and Separatist dials for 4-Hull squadrons.

The dials come ready to print on cards of 6 matching dials. They are already laid out and ready to upload to your preferred printing service. There are images for each hull zone value for each faction. Check the contents for more information.

The download also includes a Photoshop template you can use to create your own custom dials. Be sure you do not change the image size or resolution to ensure any dials you make will print correctly. The original template came from an unknown source on the internet, but has been significantly modified, plus Republic and Separatist faction flavors were added.

With some basic Photoshop knowledge, and a few simple changes, you can generate single dial images in whatever style floats your boat. This can be pretty flexible and can extend beyond Star Wars Armada.

Below you can see some sample dials that were created using the template, for the Battlestar Galactica Armada variant Cylon and Colonial factions. The gradient colors were changed, a border was added to the hull zone values, and the icons were changed.

Tip: Make the icons you want to use fit inside a 140x140 square at 300 dpi for a clean replacement)

You can get the BSG dial template used for this example using the link below:

Download (1.02 MB)
There is a second Photoshop template included to assist with creating the 6-pack dial images you will eventually want to print from your single dial images. You have flexibility in how you lay out the dials and are not limited to 6 matching dials per card. The image below shows how different dials can be mixed on one printable card, again using the Battlestar Galactica dials as an example.

* All images are print-ready at 300 dpi and are ready to upload. Do not resize the images or change their resolution or they will not print correctly.
